what is VO2Max?

VO2Max is an indicator of cardio-respiratory or aerobic fitness. It represents your body’s maximum ability to breathe in Oxygen, transport it throughout your body to working muscles, and remove or breathe out Carbon Dioxide waste.

What’s So Important About VO2Max?

Several recent studies have identified a link between VO2Max and Longevity. Researchers have determined a significant (5-fold) difference in All-Cause Mortality between individuals with a Low and Elite VO2Max. What’s more… People who test Low initially may achieve up to a 50% increase in VO2Max with Exercise Training.

How is a VO2Max Test Performed?

The VO2Max test is performed by using a gas analyzer to measure Oxygen and Carbon Dioxide while you walk-jog-run on a treadmill at progressively increased intensities. Although VO2Max infers that you will have to work as hard as is possible, we can get a VO2max estimate using a submaximal protocol. The software will extrapolate your true VO2Max from the data it collected to the stopping point. The test itself takes less than 15 minutes.

We will provide you with a consultation to explain your test results and provide individualized recommendations on ways to improve your VO2max following the test. In total, expect to spend 45 minutes between preparation and follow-up.
