Matthew Booth

I had an interest and participated in sports and physical activity from a young age. At the age of 10 my mother signed my older brother and I up for a physical education course at our local YMCA. It taught us general information about the body and exercise, as well as an introduction to weightlifting techniques. I was very into basketball and football in my teen years. At 13, my parents signed me up for a personal training session. Since then, I always knew I wanted to work hands on in exercise or sport.

I attend the University of Pittsburgh for my first two years of college taking general education courses in line to study Rehabilitation Sciences. I then transferred to Temple University to study Exercise Science. As part of the curriculum, I was to take an internship course. My internship coordinator introduced me to Marino’s Fitness where I had the honor of interning for the semester. I had no idea how little I knew about working in the field.

Interning at Marino’s was by far the biggest contributor to my undergraduate knowledge. Working with clients in real life situations is much different than studying it. I quickly found out the best way to learn was to engage myself as much as possible. Luckily for me that internship led to full time employment. I am continuing to learn a lot from the people here. I also learned I really enjoy working with all of our clients.

I am currently a Student Physical Therapist at Neumann University in Aston, PA. I am in my second year and working toward my Doctorate in Physical Therapy. I continue to work at Marino’s in a part time position where I am able to continue my exercise science education and apply what I learn in the classroom to real life scenarios.
