Surprisingly, I didn’t grow up with an active lifestyle.  I didn’t play sports and I definitely had no intentions of eating healthy.  Fitness came later in life.  When I was 24, I realized I had to make a change in my activity levels and eating habits.  I had poor posture and I was overweight.  I tried a number of fad diets and running (which I hated and also believed was the only solution to my inactivity). These solutions were only temporary and did help me lose weight at first, however, I gained half of the weight I lost.  The problem: I simply couldn’t maintain the very low calories the fad diets demanded I eat.  There was no way I could maintain that lifestyle, so inevitably, I gave up.

A year or so later a friend introduced me to lifting weights.  I loved the way it made me feel.  Soon, it became a habit and it allowed me to eat a healthy number of calories and still lose weight.  I ended up losing over 70 pounds and competing in powerlifting through USAPL in Philadelphia.

Lifting weights became a passion and I wanted to make it my career; to help others find an appreciation for the iron like I did. I hired my own coach to learn better technique and got certified through National Academy of Sports Medicine to become a personal trainer.  I began at a community rec center with one-on-one personal training.  Fortunately, through life’s many twists and turns, I ended up working here at Marino’s.  I have learned so much here and continue to learn every day.
